Sixth Annual Getting the Gig

The Lubbock Cultural Arts Foundation invites musicians, industry professionals, and community members to the 6th Annual Getting the Gig an event to foster, celebrate and support the music community in West Texas. This event, born from Lubbock’s designation as a Texas Music Friendly Community in 2020, is marking 6 years this Fall.
This year’s program will take place on Tuesday, October 13 from 6:00pm to 10:00pm at Jake’s Sports Café (5025 50th Street, Lubbock, TX). With a mix of performances, networking, and dinner, the event offers valuable opportunities for musicians at every stage of their careers.
Event Highlights Include:
- Music Showcase: Emerging musicians will share their talents live on stage. Performers curated into the showcase this year have the opportunity to ‘get a gig’ and be selected by one or more the venues who will be on site this year.
- Session on Improvisation: The ability to improvise with other musicians and “sit in” is a critical skill for musicians. This year, we’ll do a demo on this important technique lead by Jonny “Keys” Hughes. We’ll have a pro backline walk volunteers through how this happens and how they make it look easy (when it’s definitely not).
- Live Music Venues: More amazing live music venues this year and the following will be onsite to meet and talk with participants, listen to performers and have conversations about opportunities at their venues.
- Chez Sami
- Adventure Park
- Buddy Holly Center
- The Combine
- Jake’s
- Wallace Theatre
- Hollingsworth Hall Cultural Center
- Nashwell’s Cafe
- Jackalope (Tinier Desk Concerts)
- The Crush Pad by Veesart Cellars.
