Freund fires 69 as Tech finishes seventh at The Bruzzy
Cameron Freund fired a 3-under 69 to lead Texas Tech in Wednesday’s final round at The Bruzzy as the Red Raiders finished seventh in the event at Trophy Club Country Club.
Texas Tech carded a 2-over 290 in the final round to finish the 54-hole tournament at 8-under 856 (284-282-290). The Red Raiders entered Wednesday’s final round in fourth place at 10-under before falling three spots on the final day. Oklahoma claimed the team title, going wire to wire in the win and capping the event at 33-under 831 with a 10-shot win over second-place UTSA, which finished at 23-under 841.
Freund closed with her best round of the tournament, shooting a 3-under 69 to climb into a tie for 20th at 3-under 213 (72-72-69) after entering the final round tied for 27th. Her final-round 69 was the low round of the day for the Red Raiders as she followed up a pair of 72s on Tuesday. Freund’s Wednesday was highlighted by a 2-under, bogey-free back nine that included an eagle on the 517-yard, par-5 10th hole.
Parat Sukanant also finished tied for 20th at 3-under 213 after rounds of 72-68-73. Sukanant’s 4-under 68 in Tuesday’s second round helped the freshman earn her first top-20 finish after Wednesday’s 1-over 73. Sukanant held a tie for 10th place after the first 36 holes.
Tarini Bhoga capped her Texas Tech debut with a 1-over 73 to finish 24th at 2-under 214 (68-73-73). The junior transfer opened her first tournament as a Red Raider by firing a 4-under 68 and remained under par through all 54 holes despite shooting rounds of 73 and 73 in the second and third rounds.
Angel Yin finished tied for 38th at 3-over 219 (72-72-75), while senior Klara Hurtova placed tied for 42nd at 6-over 222 (76-70-76).
Roisin Scanlon, competing as an individual, finished 61st at 17-over 233 (74-82-77).
The Bruzzy marked the season-opening tournament for the Red Raiders, who will continue the fall portion of their schedule at home Sept. 22-23 for the Red Raider Invitational at The Rawls Course. Admission is free, with 8:30 a.m. starts each day.
